Central House has been reimagined as a modern boutique hotel, event space, bar & café. The historic Rockefeller building’s interior has been reinvented by Eduardo Rodriguez and Herman Vega of ‘DSGNER’. Central House design is marked with a sense of humor, whimsy, and playfulness, a balance between luxury and comfort. Our guests feel instantly transported yet at home. Pure magic!
Dynamic Duo
Hudson Valley born and raised sisters Julia Carr and Leslie Carr-Avalos have come home to Central House and Universal Cafe & Bar to create a joyful hospitality experience. After decades of living, working, and creating in San Francisco and New York City the sisters have returned to their roots in the Hudson Valley. Leslie is the current chef/owner of Universal Cafe which was a San Francisco institution for almost 30 years and has now relocated to Central House. Julia is a Culinary Institute of America graduate with an eclectic real estate and hospitality background. Together they welcome you to Central House and look forward to providing you with a memorable Hudson Valley experience.

Originally built in 1876, Central House has lived up to its name as a central gathering place for locals and visitors to connect. The building has been operated as a hotel, restaurant, speakeasy, and even rumored to have been a brothel! Owned and operated by the Rockefeller family in the early 1900s, this historic landmark is a piece of history you can experience firsthand.
